BBC pundit Clinton Morrison raved about Nottingham Forest star Willy Boly after yesterday’s game with Brentford. The Reds drew 1-1 despite playing for over 30 minutes with 10 men.

Moussa Niakhate was sent off in the 56th minute and Christian Norgaard scored moments later. Their lead lasted just seven minutes though with Nicolas Dominguez restoring parity with a delightful header.

It was Forest leader Boly who came in for some praise from Morrison, however. He was handed the chance to start at centre-back, with Murillo playing alongside him for his debut.

The Ivorian was commanding throughout the contest. He showcased his excellent leadership qualities and if he stays fit, he will prove a very useful player this season.

Morrison raves about Forest star Boly

The pundit was covering the Forest match for BBC Sport. He was extremely impressed with Boly and with the game edging towards a close he praised his performance.

He said on BBC Radio 5 Live: “Willy Boly is my man of the match. Just for those two blocks that he’s just made. Outstanding.”

Boly signed for Forest last summer ahead of the maiden campaign back in the Premier League. He provided the team with some experience and when he was fit he was considered a regular.

Forest have healthy competition at centre-back

It’s good that the Reds do have options. With Boly in the team, Forest do look quite solid defensively and hopefully, he can stay fit a little more often this season.

During 2022/23 he struggled with a hamstring problem. When he was in the team, however, Forest claimed some big points and Boly is an important player.

At 32-years-old, Forest defender Boly has bags of experience. Steve Cooper clearly values his importance to the team and yesterday he started him over club captain Joe Worrall.

With Felipe, Moussa Niakhate, Scott McKenna and Andrew Omobamidele also in the ranks, the competition for places at centre-back is certainly heating up at the City Ground.
