Carlisle United manager Paul Simpson has heaped praise on Nottingham Forest loan star Fin Back. The player has bounced back from a serious injury to start firing again with the EFL outfit.
Back joined Carlisle on loan last season. He made 19 appearances for the club but picked up a cruel injury in December that curtailed his campaign prematurely.

Simpson saw enough to take him back for this season though. Back left Forest to join Carlisle on loan once again and he’s made 11 appearances during 2023/24.
Simpson impressed with Forest starlet Back
Back is a likeable character and he’s the sort of player who is desperate to keep honing his skills. In Simpson, he has a manager who believes in him and the Forest youngster is getting back up to full speed.
Speaking at the weekend, the Carlisle boss told The News and Star: “I’ve spoken to Fin over the last week to ten days saying I need more from him, I want more.
“I thought he was excellent on Saturday – he played with fire in his belly. And he was unlucky in the first half when he hits the post.”
Back could have a bright future
Coming from a sporting family, it was always likely that Back would have the determination and drive to succeed as a footballer. Right now, it’s a case of Back playing as much football as he possibly can.

The 21-year-old has made five appearances for the Reds. His last outing came on Boxing Day in 2022 when Steve Cooper handed him the chance to play in a 2-0 defeat to Middlesbrough.
Back will hope to one day make an impact at Forest. In the here and now, however, he has the perfect manager in Simpson, to continue learning and playing regular football.
