Nottingham Forest allowed Lewis O’Brien to join Middlesbrough in the summer. He joined on a season-long loan but now a worrying update has emerged.
Boss Michael Carrick has claimed that the player is set for some time on the sidelines. He picked up an injury in a win over Watford at the weekend and will now face a spell of rehabilitation.

O’Brien signed for Forest for £10 million in the summer of 2022. He joined from Huddersfield shortly after the Reds had beaten them in the Championship Play-Off Final.
O’Brien set for spell on sidelines after Forest exit
The 24-year-old looked to be making good progress with Boro. He was playing well, albeit in an unfamiliar position as a left-sided wing-back at the Riverside Stadium.
Now, it’s a really cruel blow for the player. He will hope that surgery isn’t required on this occasion and he can be back out on the pitch helping his teammates.
Carrick told the Northern Echo: “He won’t be back anytime soon. It will be a good few weeks, if not longer. He has specialists and surgeons to see, so we’ll keep you updated.”
O’Brien needs to get fit quickly
This really isn’t ideal and it’s hard not to feel sympathy for O’Brien. There was an argument to say that he could have done a job during the second half of last season.

Instead, he was omitted from the 25-man squad and sent to D.C. United on loan. He did well in Wayne Rooney’s team and ultimately earned himself a move to Boro.
This injury comes at the worst possible time with the games coming thick and fast. Forest and Boro will both be hoping for good news and hopefully, he can be on the mend soon.
