Ray Houghton raved about Nottingham Forest starlet Murillo on Saturday during the 0-0 draw against Crystal Palace. The Brazilian was in fine form as the Reds claimed a decent point on their travels.

Murillo plays as a left-sided central defender and was handed his Forest debut against Brentford. His performance was so impressive that Steve Cooper kept him in the team on Saturday.

The centre-back has the physical presence of Wes Morgan and the confidence on the ball of Franz Beckenbauer! Clearly, he has some way to go to achieve what those two did but his start in England has caught the eye.

Houghton raves about Forest gem Murillo

Houghton was desperately impressed with the Forest defender on Saturday. Admittedly the man who played for the Republic of Ireland during his career did have a point when he claimed that he perhaps lacked the composure to finish his chance.

However, he did rave about the Forest man. He suggested that Murillo showed maturity beyond his years to maraud forward in the first half, although he did criticise his finish.

He told BBC Radio 5 Live: “The shot is why Murillo is a centre-back! The rest of the move was Brazilian all over. His quality on the ball is magnificent, the way he moved the ball from one foot to the other, sold a few Palace players a dummy.

“Then when you are just looking for him to have that quality and composure to put the ball into the corner, he hits it straight down the middle! Nearly one of the goals of the season.”

Murillo will learn from experiences so far

What a start the player has made to life at Forest. Okay, our previous comparison to Beckenbauer was us getting excited but he definitely has a swagger about him.

Murillo looks like a real find by the Forest scouting network who are currently watching players in South America. He doesn’t have much senior experience but boy what a start he’s made at the City Ground.

The player now looks undroppable from a Forest perspective. The head coach will hope that Murillo can keep being positive on the pitch and there is definitely even more to come from the defender.
