Crystal Palace defender Chris Richards thinks the USA will now see a different side to Nottingham Forest star Matt Turner. The Reds player is established as the number-one goalkeeper, making nine appearances for his new club.

Turner checked in at the City Ground from Arsenal in the summer. He cost Forest just £10 million and he’s showcased in some games that he’s more than capable between the posts.

The 29-year-old will be delighted that he’s now getting the chance to play regular first-team football. He made just seven appearances for Arsenal in his only campaign at the Emirates Stadium and that proved difficult for him.

Richards thinks Forest star Turner will gain confidence

Ahead of international fixtures for the USA against Germany and Ghana, Richards has praised Turner. He believes it will now be exciting to see just how far he’s come, given that he’s playing regularly at Forest.

He told Goal: “I think he just kind of has this sense of confidence to him now that I wouldn’t say he was lacking, but maybe that he just needed help developing it. It comes with games, it comes with experiences and so I feel like every time he comes back, you see a different side of that, in a good way, of course.

“I think also him being the No. 1 at Forest is also going to further his development and then the next camp and I don’t know how many camps are coming after this, but every single time, I’m sure we’ll see a more confident side to Matt.”

Turner must continue steady performances

Confidence is the key word here. After keeping a clean sheet for Forest against Richards and Crystal Palace on Saturday, he should head into international duty full of confidence.

The Reds player will know that he has to keep shining under Steve Cooper. The head coach has Odysseas Vlachodimos waiting in the wings at Forest and Turner will feel the competition for places.

For now, however, it looks as though the gloves are his to lose. Turner will be extremely grateful for the chance that he’s been given at Forest; as a result, he will want to keep proving his worth.
