Retired England cricketer Stuart Broad has expressed sympathy with Nottingham Forest star Morgan Gibbs-White. The forward was denied a brilliant first goal of the season on Saturday after his effort struck the woodwork in the first half.

Forest were forced to settle for a draw at Crystal Palace at the weekend, despite the efforts of Gibbs-White. The game proved to be a somewhat entertaining 0-0 draw as the Reds headed into the international break with another point to their tally.

It’s been a pretty decent start to the second season in the Premier League for Forest. They have claimed nine points from eight games but they have already played Arsenal, Chelsea and both Manchester clubs away from the City Ground.

It was a case of so near yet so far away for Gibbs-White as he returned to the Forest starting eleven. His effort was on the back of a beautiful ball from Murillo and his first-time shot towards goal was majestic but sadly it came back off the post.

After the weekend, Broad has taken to Instagram. He simply posted three words on his story that read: “So nearly wonderful”, over a video showing Gibbs-White striking the post.

Broad will have much more time to follow the fortunes of Forest now that his cricket career is over. He made the tough decision to retire after the summer’s Ashes series and he goes down as a legend of the sport.

Gibbs-White is very important to Steve Cooper

It goes without saying that everyone at the City Ground is rooting for Gibbs-White to get going. He’s yet to hit the goal trail this season but that’s not been through a lack of trying.

His work rate is second to none in the Forest team. He never gives up and as the team’s creative spark, he is always trying to make things happen in the final third.

The challenge for Gibbs-White is to perhaps relax a little bit more. There is a bit of a notion just now that he’s maybe trying a little too hard and with a great squad now in place, the 23-year-old can afford to chill out a little bit.
