Nottingham Forest head coach Steve Cooper was absolutely desperate to bring Callum Hudson-Odoi to the City Ground this summer. The Reds eventually agreed on a deal worth around £3 million to sign the winger on transfer deadline day.
The Reds completed the swoop on Chelsea with just hours to go on transfer deadline day. Hudson-Odoi has made four appearances for Forest after scoring a quality goal on his debut against Burnley.

Cooper knew Hudson-Odoi extremely well before taking him to Forest. He was part of the England Under-17 squad that won the World Cup in 2017 and he will hope to see the best of him once more at the City Ground.
Cooper desperately wanted Hudson-Odoi at Forest
The Reds left no stone unturned during their summer transfer window. At times, the lack of activity was frustrating for supporters but in the end, 13 new additions came to the club.
Now, a report from The Athletic has claimed the lengths that Forest head coach Cooper went to in order to bring Hudson-Odoi to the club. They claim that the head coach bombarded the winger with phone calls as he bid to deter him from other clubs.
It’s believed that he knew what the player was capable of and the challenge for Cooper now is to get the best out of him again. After all, this is a player who was once valued at £70 million by Chelsea, with Bayern Munich keen to sign him.
Hudson-Odoi could thrive at the City Ground
So many of the current Forest squad are at Forest based on the fact that Cooper is the head coach. With that in mind, Hudson-Odoi is another example of a player who might not be at Forest had someone different been the manager.

Several clubs were keen to take a chance on Hudson-Odoi during the summer transfer window. It was claimed for a little while that Fulham were in the driving seat but Cooper remained determined to get his man over the line.
The 22-year-old performer has the potential to be explosive if he gets back to his best. Given that Cooper was so desperate to sign him, it looks as though he will give the player every chance to get going at Forest.
