Nottingham Forest defender Neco Williams has found regular football difficult this season – but last night he starred for Wales. The Dragons ran out 4-0 winners over Gibraltar in their latest friendly.
Williams signed for Forest for £17 million in the summer of 2022. He was tasked as being the man to fill the void left by Djed Spence at the City Ground and that didn’t quite go to plan.

It took Williams some time to adapt to life in the Premier League. He did, however, seem to have the backing of Steve Cooper who gave him a number of chances to prove himself.
Williams stars for Wales after Forest disappointment
This season has been a pretty drab one for Williams so far. He’s not even been in the matchday squad for four of Forest’s eight games in the Premier League and now faces a fight for his place.
He has a number of players ahead of him in his position but it would seem as though Rob Page still fancies him for Wales. Last night, he was given a 7/10 by Wales Online who rated his performance.
They said about the out-of-favour Forest performer: “Ran Gibraltar ragged for much of the evening. His quality stood out.”
Williams must use Wales as a chance to get himself going
Williams is clearly not going to let the Forest setback knock his confidence. Forest have a number of options and as a youngster, he will merely view this as part of the process.
Williams has time on his side and he should get chances at Forest as the season progresses. For Wales, he looks like an immovable object in their team and he will likely continue playing.

That does bode well for Williams who will be desperate for some games. He’s made 31 appearances for his country and has the backing of a manager who rates him highly.
Williams did make a return to the bench for Forest on Saturday. That comes on the back of several injuries though and it will be interesting to see what the future holds for the player.
