Nottingham Forest gem Dale Taylor was in action for Northern Ireland again last night. Boss Michael O’Neill handed him his second start in a week as the Green and White Army lost 1-0 to Slovenia.

The 19-year-old is performing really well at the moment. He’s on his second loan spell away from the City Ground, with Wycombe Wanderers hoping he can replicate the form that saw him help keep Burton Albion in League One last season.

Taylor’s energetic displays have seen him score three goals for the Chairboys. He looks set for a bright future in the professional game and Forest look to have a real gem on their hands.

It proved a tricky night for the Forest youngster. Taylor began the game in attack but Northern Ireland were defeated 1-0 thanks to an early goal by Adam Gnezda Cerin.

After the game, he was given a par for the course 6/10 rating. Belfast Live claimed: “Worked hard but struggled to make a real impact on the game.”

Forest will be happy with Taylor though. It’s quite remarkable that he’s getting chances to start international games and that should give him so much confidence.

Taylor will be a Forest star

Taylor is fancied by the coaching staff at Forest as a future star. During the 2021/22 campaign, he was helping the under-18s to the FA Youth Cup Final and now he’s playing regular international football.

Forest have done the right thing by loaning Taylor out. He needs to be playing regular football and the Reds clearly don’t think it’s fair to drop him in at Premier League level just yet.

The challenge for Taylor is to keep playing regularly in League One and jumping on the goal-contribution trail. If he does that, he will give him every chance of earning an opportunity at Forest.
