Nottingham Forest allowed Chris Cohen to move to Luton in 2020 where he linked up with Nathan Jones. Now, with Jones out of work, he’s back in football as the assistant manager at Lincoln City.
The 36-year-old retired prematurely after a number of serious ACL injuries to his knee. That took a toll on the man who served the Reds with distinction and he’s gone into coaching.

After starting out with the Forest under-21s, he linked up with Jones at Luton as part of his backroom staff. When the manager went to Southampton, Cohen followed him but that spell proved shortlived.
He’s been out of work since Jones was handed his papers at St Mary’s Stadium in February. Now, however, Cohen has got a new job in League One.
Cohen heads to Lincoln after manager sacking
Tom Shaw is the man who has been tasked with reviving the fortunes of Lincoln after Mark Kennedy decided to leave. He’s now picked up the phone and asked Cohen to go with him to Sincil Bank.
Shaw was actually on the books at Forest as a youngster. He was released before signing scholarship terms, however, and forged a successful non-league career, with Mansfield Town one of his clubs.
Cohen will be keen to stay in the game, whilst Jones waits for a job. It’s not clear at this stage whether or not the man who made over 300 appearances for Forest is keen to become a manager in his own right.
Cohen deserves the best after Forest exit
What a man Chris Cohen is. Okay, he never won anything other than promotion from League One with Forest but he still goes down as a modern-day hero.
Cohen captained the team during his time at Forest. He always gave his all whenever he was called upon and it’s such a sad shame that he couldn’t play more given his knee injuries.

Cohen as a coach was treated harshly by Forest. Chris Hughton could have won a lot of plaudits at the City Ground by giving him the chance to join his senior coaching staff.
Instead, he sought a move elsewhere and is now considered as Jones’ trusted lieutenant. With that in mind, the move to Lincoln feels like a bit of a short-term fix.
Cohen helped Shaw get off to a dream start on Saturday. The Imps beat Fleetwood 1-0 to move up to 12th in the third tier and claim a first win for four league matches.
