Nottingham Forest youngster Oliver Hammond has reacted on Instagram after Ben Hammond scored for the B-Team last night. The defender struck with just minutes left on the clock to give the Reds a win over Nice.

Forest were playing in the Premier League International Cup. It’s the first time they’ve played in the competition and is something they’ve reached by being a category one academy.

The two players with the surname Hammond in the Forest squad aren’t related. They both represent Wales at the international level but the same surname is purely coincidental.

Forest gem sends message to B-Team hero Hammond

Oliver is currently trying to force his way into the Cheltenham team after Darrell Clarke took over at the club. As for Ben, he’s currently one of the stars of the B-Team and has shone in their strong start to the season.

After last night’s game, Oliver took to Instagram to share a tweet from Forest on his story. He tagged Ben in the message and said: “Last minute winner, easy!”

Forest now have three points on the board in the Premier League International Cup. They will hope to build on this win and pick up enough points to advance to the knockout stages of the competition.

Hammond a shining light during B-Team win

The talented defender has been an important figure in Warren Joyce’s team this season. He has made eight appearances in all competitions and usually operates as a centre-back.

Hammond has played twice in the EFL Trophy with the B-Team beating Carlisle and losing to Harrogate.

The player might hope to emulate Oliver at some point and head out on loan. At 19-years-old, he might be a target for some clubs in League One or League Two and men’s football looks like something that he’d thrive in.

For now, Hammond is getting lots of football for the B-Team. The player’s confidence should go through the roof after last night’s match-winning goal and that bodes well.
