The PGMOL have announced that referee Jarred Gillett will be in charge of Nottingham Forest’s game against Aston Villa on Sunday.

Forest will be hosting Villa, looking for a first win in six league games at the weekend after falling to a 3-0 defeat against Liverpool on Sunday.

Goals from Diogo Jota, Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah secured the win for Jurgen Klopp’s side, with Steve Cooper’s side failing to impress once more.

Gillett will be assisted by Darren Cann and Derek Eaton with Stuart Attwell taking charge of VAR for the clash at the City Ground.

Jarred Gillett to referee Forest v Aston Villa

The 38-year-old is from Australia and has been a Premier League match official since 2021. He is the first overseas referee in Premier League history.

Gillett last took charge of Forest back in April. He was the man in the middle as the Reds beat Brighton and Hove Albion 3-1 at the City Ground, a crucial win for the Reds’ survival hopes.

On that occasion, he distributed two cards. Both of which were shown to Forest players; including Keylor Navas who was cautioned for time wasting.

Gillett was on VAR for Wolves’s clash against Newcastle United on Saturday, with the Australian confirming a dubious penalty for Eddie Howe’s side.

Hwang Hee-Chan was adjudged to have kicked the standing leg of Fabian Schar, however, minimal contact was made – with a penalty undoubtedly the wrong decision.

Forest must try and return to winning ways against Villa

The Reds have to get a win from somewhere. It has to be said that it looks very unlikely that the team will get anything out of the game against one of the most inform sides in the division.

Unai Emery’s men face Forest, Fulham and Tottenham in the next three games. As a result, the manager will view those fixtures as a chance to strengthen their grip on a European spot.

Forest can’t focus too much on who will be refereeing this weekend. All Cooper can do is prepare his team in the best way possible and hope that a good performance can be produced.
