Nottingham Forest did make a bid to sign Djordje Petrovic during the summer but they found him too expensive. The stopper ended up signing for Chelsea and is currently awaiting his debut.
The Reds were in the market for two new goalkeepers in the summer. First, Matt Turner was added from Arsenal for £7 million and then on transfer deadline day, Odysseas Vlachodimos joined from Benfica.
Turner has been the number-one custodian so far this season. However, on Sunday at Liverpool, he was at fault for two goals and now, Steve Cooper has a bit of a conundrum facing him.
Forest made bid for Petrovic
This news comes courtesy of The Standard who claims that Forest were priced out of the race for Petrovic. At the time, New England Revolution were perhaps aware that the Reds didn’t have a goalkeeper.
Forest needed to move pretty quickly before the season started and made a bid for Petrovic. As a result, the club could afford to play a game of chance with Petrovic and Chelsea eventually nabbed him for £14 million.
The stopper hasn’t played for the Blues just yet. How could, however, be getting closer to a first outing at Stamford Bridge, with Robert Sanchez coming under pressure just lately.
Forest have goalkeeping decision to make
As Mauricio Pochettino weighs up whether or not to give Forest-linked player Petrovic a game, the Reds have their own decision to make. Do they stick with Turner, or twist and give Vlachodimos a chance?
That’s the dilemma facing Cooper this weekend as Forest play Aston Villa. It has to be said that Vlachodimos hasn’t arrived to sit on the bench and after Turner’s errors last weekend he can really have no excuse now.
Petrovic looks like a quality goalkeeper and he’d have been ideal at Forest. Brad Friedel recently called him ‘very good’ and it will be fascinating to see how he does once he gets a Chelsea opportunity.
