Nottingham Forest academy graduate Arvin Appiah was hooked after just 25 minutes at the weekend. The winger is currently playing for Rotherham United and at the weekend they lost to Sheffield Wednesday.
Eyebrows were raised when Forest decided to accept an offer of £8 million from Almeria for the talented youngster. He had made just eight appearances for the senior ranks and had scored a single goal.
Appiah has struggled to fulfil his potential since leaving the Forest. Now, he’s 22-year-old and after loan spells with Tenerife, Lugo and Malaga, he finds himself in South Yorkshire with Rotherham.
Appiah endures nightmare Sunday outing
Appiah, who came through the Forest ranks, was chosen to start in this blood-and-thunder South Yorkshire derby. Rotherham had beaten Coventry in midweek, whilst Wednesday were 13 Championship games without a victory.

Michael Smith had fired the Owls into a surprise lead in the 11th minute. The Millers were getting run ragged at Hillsborough and surprisingly Appiah’s number came up on the substitution board in the 26th minute.
It wasn’t ideal for a young player who was starting just his second Championship game of the season. Now, the Forest academy graduate Appiah will hope to shake this off and earn another start in the near future.
Forest were right to sell Appiah
Forest got brilliant money for Appiah, a player who had played a handful of times for the club. He’s struggled to really make a name for himself anywhere and he’s facing a similar problem at Rotherham.
The youngster is only on loan at the New York Stadium. As a result, the man who scored for Forest against Burton Albion in 2018 will need to start proving himself very quickly.
Forest fans never like to see talented youngsters leave and at the time, Appiah was no exception. Looking back, however, it looks like the club got this decision absolutely spot on.
