Billy Davies has raved about Wes Morgan from his time managing the defender at Nottingham Forest. The Scottish boss has been discussing some of the players he used to manage during a recent interview.
Morgan made 402 appearances for Forest during his time at the club which spanned over a decade. He helped the Reds reach successive play-off campaigns under the management of Davies.
The centre-back captained the club on some occasions and he was a leader in the dressing room. As a player who was born in Nottingham, it was quite difficult to see Morgean leave Forest for Leicester in 2012.
Davies loved managing Morgan at Forest
The Scottish manager arrived at Forest following a spell at Derby County. He quickly won over the fan base, however, by taking Forest on a journey that should have resulted in promotion.

Davies had a knack of falling short at Forest during his first tenure. In terms of his second spell at the club, the less said about that the better, with the 59-year-old sacked after a 5-0 defeat to Derby.
Speaking to the Unsung Sport Podcast, Davies said: “Wes Morgan was greatly underrated in his earlier years at Forest. He was so reliable and he was such a winner and determined player who went on to prove his worth.
Morgan was quality on Trentside
Although he signed for Leicester, the club really had no choice. The £2 million gained from his transfer allowed the club to survive and also allowed Steve Cotterill to bring in new players who in turn kept Forest up.
The defender’s career went into overdrive at Leicester. In 2016 he helped Leicester complete the unthinkable by winning the Premier League and he also made Champions League appearances for the club.
Forest fans still hold Morgan in high regard. It’s hard to feel angst towards a player, and person, like the academy graduate and he will always be welcomed back at the City Ground.
