Geoff Shreeves was left stunned by Nottingham Forest yesterday as they defeated Aston Villa. Goals from Ola Aina and Orel Mangala gave the Reds a vital win in the Premier League.

Shreeves left Sky Sports in the summer to end a long-standing association with the broadcasters. He’s a respected figure in football broadcasting though and now he’s working for some channels in the USA.

He couldn’t foresee Forest claiming the victory yesterday. Shreeves fancied Villa to claim the victory and in fairness, he probably wasn’t alone with that opinion.

Shreeves stunned by Forest

This was a result that you’d perhaps have to call a bit of a coupon buster. As good as Forest have been at home since winning promotion, Villa have already scored 26 league goals this season.

Forest managed to keep them at bay, however and ended up claiming a huge three points. Furthermore, it proved to be a welcome clean sheet for the Reds after they shipped three at Liverpool last weekend.

Shreeves told CBS Sports Golazo on the Forest performance: “For Nottingham Forest to turn over their Midlands rivals like that, it was an extraordinary performance. Brilliant performance but once again in the Premier League form can go completely out of the window. I don’t think there’d have been many backers outside of Forest supporters going into that game but it was an unbelievable performance, brilliant!”

Forest must build on Aston Villa performance

The Reds can take great heart from this performance. It was enjoyable to watch from a fan perspective and for Steve Cooper it proved a timely showing.

Now, it’s all about keeping this level of performance going. Shreeves is right to suggest that Forest weren’t expected to win but then this is why the Premier League is considered the best in the world.

Shreeves is missed on Sky and he’s spoken fondly about Forest previously. Hopefully, the club can get some more positive results in the coming weeks and earn more plaudits.
