Harry Toffolo is a player who spent most of last season on the fringes at Nottingham Forest behind Brazilian loanee Renan Lodi.

However, this season the 28-year-old has been given a more consistent first-team place by Forest boss Steve Cooper.

Toffolo has taken the opportunity with both hands, delivering two assists in the 2-1 victory over Aston Villa on Sunday.

The former Huddersfield Town defender joined the club back in the summer of 2022, in a £10 million deal with Lewis O’Brien – with Toffolo seeming like an add-on to the deal, however, he’s proved everyone wrong in recent times.

Toffolo has been a model professional

The left-back has bided his time whilst being on the sidelines, whilst never complaining about game time or requesting a move.

With injuries and suspensions in full-back areas, Toffolo was given his chance away against Crystal Palace and performed well against tricky youngster Jesurun Rak-Sakyi.

He’s since started twice in the last three games, with the defeat at Liverpool the exception – however, he did come on as a substitute.

Cooper has been more than fair with the 28-year-old and after Toffolo’s recent performances, the boss must keep deploying the former Huddersfield man.

Toffolo is an all-round top guy

Sunday’s performance was arguably Toffolo’s best display in a Forest shirt with his two assists for Ola Aina and Orel Mangala.

On and off the pitch, the 28-year-old is just a great guy – he knows what it means to be a part of the football club with him and his family embracing life at the club.

He wasn’t everyone’s favourite player last season, but Toffolo has really progressed this season with his performances a level above anything he produced last season.
