Odysseas Vlachodimos was full of praise for defender Ola Aina after he scored his first goal for the club on Sunday.

Aina opened the scoring after just four minutes, giving Steve Cooper’s side a crucial early lead against high-flying Aston Villa.

Vlachodimos, who was making his debut for the club, kept a clean sheet after coming in to replace Matt Turner.

After the victory, the 29-year-old shot-stopper admitted his pride in making his debut for the club, praising Aina and the atmosphere at the City Ground.

“Everybody fought for each other, Ola scored an early goal and we were amazing tactically. It’s down to the whole team’s performance.”

“I was very happy. We wanted to start the game in the best possible way, and with an early goal it makes it a lot easier.”

“It was an amazing atmosphere. It makes everything easier when we win the game. I’m very happy, it was an amazing atmosphere, but we need to keep going.”

His position to lose after Villa win

It is safe to say the starting position in goal is Vlachodimos’ to lose after his display against Unai Emery’s side on Sunday.

Although he didn’t have an awful amount to deal with, he responded when called upon – with the 29-year-old demonstrating his quality distribution.

After his debut, the Greek shot-stopper has showcased his ability and has given Cooper an easy decision ahead of the trip to face West Ham United this weekend.
