Diogo Goncalves is a player who never really lived up to expectations during his loan spell at Nottingham Forest back in 2019.
However, last night the 26-year-old registered a goal and an assist as FC Copenhagen beat Manchester United 4-3 in the Champions League.
The Portuguese winger spent the 2018/19 season on loan at the City Ground – making ten appearances but only one start against Bristol City on the opening day.
He failed to make an impact for the Reds, but it’s safe to say he’s exploded into life in recent seasons in Denmark.

Danish media on Goncalves’ performance
Although he only played 70 minutes, the Danish media raved about Goncalves’ performance against Erik ten Hag’s side.

“Some things are easier to forgive than others – Diogo Goncalves’ weak start to the match we never talk about again.
“Are you in the mood for an evening for the Portuguese offensive player? A goal, a delicious assist and a free kick on the crossbar.
“Goncalves was the driver of the Copenhagen party bus, and on Thursday the Manchester United defender wakes up with a hangover because of the FCK star.”
A rise no one could have predicted
Goncalves joined the Reds with huge promise on loan from Benfica but failed to hit those heights under various managers that season.
He produced a couple of moments of magic during his spell, but not enough for a permanent move to the City Ground.
However, fast forward four years and he’s producing quality displays against the likes of Manchester United and Bayern Munich – massive credit to the 26-year-old.
