Sky commentator thinks Nottingham Forest star is ‘perfect’ for Steve Cooper

Sky Sports commentator Seb Hutchinson has praised Nottingham Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi. The talisman was fit enough to start for the Reds as they beat Aston Villa on Sunday.

Awoniyi has been a brilliant signing since he checked in at Forest in the summer of 2022. He has taken some time to adapt but now his importance is there for all to see.

During his maiden campaign at Forest following an £18 million move from Union Berlin, Awoniyi fired 11 goals for the Reds. He’s got three so far this season but is without a goal since August at present.

Hutchinson raves about Awoniyi

The Sky man was in place at the City Ground on Sunday. Hutchinson is very popular with the Forest fan base and he always comes across as being fond of Forest.

Speaking after the game, the commentator has raved about Forest star Awoniyi. He believes that he’s not integral to the way in which the Reds try to play under Steve Cooper.

Hutchinson told The Garibaldi Red Podcast: “He looks like he enjoys himself. Even when he puts a pass astray he’s always got a smile on his face, almost like there’s always a next time. The players look for him, they know he’s always an option.

“You can see his importance to the team. Actually, he is in a side the way that Forest are playing Awoniyi is the perfect striker for that. He can run the channels, he can hold the ball up.

“I think he has to be the battering ram sometimes and other players might gain from him doing that. Morgan Gibbs-White might benefit from lay-offs, Danilo when he’s back could benefit.”

Awoniyi can put himself among Premier League elite at Forest

The Nigerian international is learning all of the time. Awoniyi started quite slowly at Forest but he’s really kicked on and last season he was vital to the club’s survival mission.

Keeping him fit is the big conundrum. On Sunday, Awoniyi was able to play for around 80 minutes and that should put him in good shape for the next Forest game against West Ham.

Awoniyi is clearly enjoying his time at Forest. He’s settled in well at the club and given the fact that he’s only 26-years-old, the striker could become a top Premier League player if he can stay fit and find the way to goal a little more frequently.
