Don Goodman slams ‘careless’ Nottingham Forest star during West Ham clash

Don Goodman hammered Nottingham Forest star Nicolas Dominguez during the first half of today’s game with West Ham. The Argentine midfielder dropped a major clanger to allow Lucas Paqueta to score after just three minutes.

Dominguez was a summer signing made by Forest. He joined from Bologna in a deal worth around £8 million, with Remo Freuler heading in the opposite direction on loan.

The 25-year-old has been largely impressive since signing for the club. However, he made a glaring error in the opening exchanges at The London Stadium this afternoon.

Goodman slams Forest star Dominguez

It was the worst possible start for Forest. Dominguez tried to play a pass and ultimately played it straight to a West Ham player who teed up Paqueta to open the scoring.

Speaking on commentary for Sky Sports, Goodman said: “It’s careless and clumsy. It’s not a difficult pass, I’m not sure why he’s trying to play it in that way in that area. He’s offered his hand in apology straight away.”

Dominguez went back to basics after the goal. Forest settled into the game and were unfortunate not to equalise when Taiwo Awoniyi forced a good save from the West Ham goalkeeper.

Dominguez won’t be defined by one mistake

This was a clear error and Goodman is right to critique such a moment of madness. However, he did praise the player later in the half for some of his other passes.

Dominguez doesn’t do this sort of thing very often in a Forest shirt and one pass doesn’t make him a bad player. The Premier League is a tough school and the 11-cap international will have to learn from this.

The player is clearly talented and he did apologise straight after his error. Forest will now be hoping for a response from Dominguez as this game progresses.
