Nottingham Forest forward Morgan Gibbs-White was praised by Don Goodman ahead of yesterday’s game with West Ham. The 23-year-old once again wore the captain’s armband as Forest lost 3-2.

It was a frustrating afternoon for Forest – and for Gibbs-White. The player just doesn’t seem at home on the right flank and it’s a bit of a conundrum for Steve Cooper.

Gibbs-White did play a part in the goal that saw Forest equalise in the first half. His shot was saved by Alphonse Areola, with Taiwo Awoniyi tapping home the rebound.

Gibbs-White praised by Goodman ahead of kick-off

Ahead of yesterday’s game, Goodman had some praise for Gibbs-White. Some statistics flashed up on the screen and they showcased the 23-year-old being top of the class in a number of areas for Forest.

Goodman was quick to praise the Forest man and it seems clear that he’s a huge fan of Gibbs-White.

He said live on Sky Sports before the Forest defeat: “It’s no wonder he’s been given the armband. You look at the numbers he’s producing, they’re absolutely outstanding.”

Gibbs-White can still improve at Forest

As a young player, there will still be some more improvement for Gibbs-White to do in order to take his game to the next level. For example, his set pieces continue to frustrate.

Still, the player works incredibly hard, however. He’s got the captaincy on the basis that he’s committed to the cause and is clearly on board with what Cooper is trying to do at Forest.

It would be nice at some point to get Gibbs-White back in a more central role for Forest. He’s far more probing and dangerous in that area of the pitch and hopefully, there can be a shift in the coming weeks.

Forest have to find a way to keep hold of points on a more frequent basis. They can’t keep losing from winning positions on the road and that is proving a real problem for the manager.
