‘In the conversation’… Simon Jordan backs Nottingham Forest man to get huge job in the future

Simon Jordan has claimed that Nottingham Forest head coach Steve Cooper should be in the running for the England job. Gareth Southgate is likely to leave his post after Euro 2024 and discussion has turned towards replacements.

The man who won the World Cup with the England Under-17s in 2017 has experience managing a national team. Naturally, it seems as though he will make the step up to manage a senior national team at some point.

Cooper has been at Forest since September 2021 and his stock has risen considerably. He’s led the team to the Premier League and is now trying to stabilise the club in the top flight.

Jordan fancies Cooper to be in the mix for England

The pundit has praised Forest head coach Cooper before on TalkSPORT. Now, he’s backed the 43-year-old to be in the mix when the time does come for Southgate to leave his Three Lions post.

Speaking on TalkSPORT this morning (14/11; 11:20am), Jordan said: “Yes, Steve Cooper would be in the conversation. He’s a progressive manager, he’s doing a good job at Nottingham Forest. I watched them at the weekend and he’s building something there now. I’d definitely have him in the conversation.”

Cooper has a burgeoning reputation as a young head coach and Forest fans love him. His stock couldn’t be higher on Trentside and the challenge for him is to ensure progression for Forest this season.

Forest head coach Cooper will be in the England mix

It goes without saying that the Forest head coach will definitely be mentioned for England when Southgate goes. The Reds incumbent is respected within the Football Association and they know what he’s capable of.

Forest will hope that Cooper doesn’t go anywhere just yet. He has a job to do at the City Ground and in the immediate he needs to help Forest arrest some pretty mediocre form.

Jordan makes some very valid points as ever though. Cooper perhaps does fit the criteria that the Football Association would look for and it will be interesting to see if the Forest man is in the discussion when Southgate leaves.
