Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Osysseas Vlachodimos has claimed that Manchester United wanted to sign him in the summer. The Reds completed a deal for the stopper with just hours of the transfer window remaining on deadline day.
Vlachodimos has been forced to wait patiently for a chance to shine in the Forest team. He was playing second fiddle behind Matt Turner for the first two months of his time at the club but now he’s been handed a chance.
The 29-year-old cost the club around £10 million from Benfica. Prior to joining the Portuguese giants he had spent time with Stuttgart and Panathinaikos; whilst he’s also Greece’s number one.
Vlachodimos was fancied by Manchester United
This is very interesting indeed. United were in the market for a goalkeeper in the summer and they eventually signed Altay Bayindir who had been interesting Forest before Vlachodimos signed.

Now, Vlachodimos has admitted that United wanted to sign him before he moved to Forest. He told Greek outlet Gazzetta: “Yes there was interest (from Manchester United) but I only said ‘let’s go’ to Forest.”
It was claimed when Vlachodimos signed for Forest that Evangelos Marinakis wanted to have a Greece international in the squad.
Forest are in safe hands with Vlachodimos
The 29-year-old is still relatively young for a goalkeeper. As a result, Forest have signed well with Vlachodimos and it looks like he will prove to be a very useful signing.
Vlachodimos has bags of experience playing as a number one. With total respect to Turner that is something that he probably lacks given that he made just seven appearances for Arsenal last season.
Forest now have a stopper between their posts who was wanted by one of the biggest clubs in world football. That can only bode well and Vlachodimos looks like shrewd business from a Forest perspective.
