Nottingham Forest player Neco Williams played for Wales yesterday as they drew 1-1 with Armenia. Rob Page’s team are now struggling to qualify automatically for Euro 2024 and will likely need to win a play-off.
Williams hasn’t been playing much football at Forest so far this season. He came on for 10 minutes against Aston Villa during a recent victory but hasn’t always found himself in the squad during 2023/24.
Forest signed Williams from Liverpool in the summer of 2022. The Reds forked out £17 million to sign the player and he was pretty regular in the team during last season.
Forest player Williams praised for Wales efforts
A 1-1 draw in Armenia is hardly going to get fans excited. They must now beat Turkey in their final group game to stand any chance of reaching the tournament automatically.
After yesterday’s game, Wales Online delivered their verdict on the performance of Williams. He was handed the chance to start for his country and did enjoy some bright moments.
They scored him 5/10 for his efforts and claimed: “Showed promise going forward, but wasn’t quite able to find that final ball more often than not.”
Williams will appreciate chance to play
One aspect of the international break that will prove useful for Williams is that he gets the chance to play as he hasn’t always been given that opportunity at Forest this season with others ahead of him.
Wales face Turkey in their final game of the group stages on Tuesday night. A win is needed and Forest man Williams will hope to get more minutes under his belt.
It’s interesting that the player earned praise for his efforts going forward. That won’t come as a surprise to Forest fans, with Williams often showcasing more brilliance going forward than he does defensively.
