‘I’ve got a problem’… Ally McCoist can’t believe something that happened during Forest v Everton

Nottingham Forest should have had a penalty during Saturday’s defeat to Everton, Ally McCoist has claimed.

Forest should have been awarded a penalty when Ryan Yates appeared to have been fouled during the second half.

It was quite remarkable that Forest didn’t get the decision, with VAR choosing not to recommend a check by the screen.

The Reds lost 1-0 thanks to a Dwight McNeil goal in the second half of the Premier League contest.

It was the second successive home defeat for the Reds and the third in succession in total.

Forest have Fulham and Wolves to come away this week and they have to get some points on the board.

McCoist has some sympathy with Forest after the weekend, with VAR once again in the firing line.

He said live on TalkSPORT: “I’ve got a problem with VAR there, I genuinely have a problem. I don’t have a problem, with the referee missing it, because that can happen, but I have a problem with VAR probably seeing it three or four times and not getting him over to have a look at it.

“In the Forest game, I think Paul Tierney did make a clear and obvious error. Whether he was unsighted or not, he made a clear and obvious error and in my opinion not giving the penalty. Now there might have been a reason for it, in that he never saw it or there was a player in front of him or whatever.”

This where the clear and obvious situations create far more problems than solutions.

Had this decision taken place during a European game with FIFA guidelines on VAR, Tierney would have been sent to the screen.

Instead, Michael Oliver decided not to send Tierney for a check instead declaring that a clear and obvious error wasn’t made.

Ironically, had the on-field referee pointed to the spot, the VAR wouldn’t have got involved either, such was the nature of the foul.

Still, Forest can’t bemoan VAR too much based on Saturday’s performance.

The Reds were truly dreadful throughout and it’s time for the team to get their house in order rather than continue looking for excuses.
