Nottingham Forest boss Steve Cooper has raved about Neco Williams after a 1-1 draw against Wolves at Molineux yesterday.

The Reds stopped the rot of four successive defeats with a spirited display that suggested that the players were still fighting.

Forest have slipped closer to the relegation zone in recent weeks but yesterday’s result put another point between them at the bottom three.

Williams came into the team as Cooper made seven changes from the Forest team that was thrashed by Fulham in midweek.

It was the first time since August that the 22-year-old has started for Forest and he didn’t disappoint.

Cooper impressed with Williams

For a player to come in from the cold and put in that performance speaks volumes about Williams

Forest were the better side for some of the contest yesterday and Williams left absolutely everything out on the pitch.

Cooper handed the player a rare start and after the game, he spoke at length about the player and the performance he put in.

He told BBC Radio Nottingham: “He deserved the opportunity and I cannot speak highly enough of Neco. His attitude and how he’s conducted himself over the last couple of months, he is a fantastic young boy and he’s a good young player.

“You saw his fitness levels today and I’m proud of Neco today and his commitment. He’s not happy being out of the team but he was brilliant today and he should be pleased with himself.”

Williams can now play a part for Forest

The defender performed like someone who had been playing in the team all season against Wolves.

It’s a testament to the player and his attitude to his trade that he came in and produced a performance of this quality.

Williams has proved his versatility this season and he’s now played as a full-back, a wing-back and also further forward as a winger.

At 22, Williams does bring some energy to the Forest team and he can play a part as the season progresses.
