Kelvin Wilson believes that Joe Worrall now needs to leave Nottingham Forest in the January transfer window. The Reds centre-back hasn’t made a matchday squad since the end of October.
All sorts of things have come out regarding Forest man Worrall in recent weeks. Perhaps the most telling piece of news was the claim that he’s no longer training with Steve Cooper’s squad.
It’s perhaps quite alarming just how quickly the Worrall fall from grace has taken place. In September, he was brilliant alongside Scott McKenna as Forest beat Chelsea 1-0 at Stamford Bridge.
Now, he looks to be on his way out of the club that he claims to have supported as a boy. Worrall is way down the Forest pecking order and he’s been linked with a move to either Leicester or Middlesbrough.
Wilson rates Worrall but thinks he should leave Forest
The man who spent several years playing for Forest at the heart of a back four has now had his say on Worrall. He rates the player highly but thinks he should now leave the club.
He told the Forest Focus Podcast: “If I was in his situation, he’s the captain of the football club. I like Joe. If I’m going to be honest, speaking in a football sense not as a friend or ex-teammate, I think he needs to leave. I don’t think he’s going to play.

“I think the way Forest play, they want to push a bit higher and that doesn’t suit Joe (Worrall). I think he can play in the Premier League. He’s a good age. He’s had good games but he’s not been consistent. That’s the case with a lot of Forest players and no shame to him.”
Wilson is spot on about Forest captain
As a pundit, the man who made 185 appearances for Forest speaks very well. When it comes to Worrall, he’s made some points that are absolutely on the money.
At 26-years-old and with the level of experience he’s got at Forest, Worrall needs to be playing. Right now, he can’t even get in the squad at the City Ground and that’s a problem for him.
Wilson is right that Worrall is probably good enough to get a Premier League gig somewhere. At Forest, he simply has better centre-backs ahead of him and the emergence of Murillo hasn’t helped him.
Forest captain Worrall only has EFL interest right now. Once the window reopens it will be fascinating to see whether any Premier League clubs show their hand and go for the defender.
