Evangelos Marinakis is going to replace Steve Cooper with Nuno Espirito Santo at Nottingham Forest. The Reds look set to replace their head coach after 27 months in charge.

Interestingly, Espirito Santo is the choice of Forest owner Marinakis ahead of Oliver Glasner who said that he’d like to take the job. He has recently been linked with Dortmund and won the Europa League in 2022.

It looks as though Cooper’s time at the City Ground will now draw to a close, following one win in 13 matches. The final straw looks to have been the 2-0 defeat to Tottenham on Friday night.

Espirito Santo set to replace Cooper

The 49-year-old recently left Saudi Arabian outfit Al-Ittihad after reading them to the league title. He departed due to political reasons after losing to a team from Iran.

According to The Guardian, Forest are now in advanced talks with Espirito Santo. He has been the choice of Marinakis despite Glasner saying that he’d been keen to take the job from Cooper.

Espirito Santo hasn’t worked in England since an intriguing spell with Tottenham. He won eight and lost seven of his 17 matches in charge of Spurs and was sacked pretty sharpish.

Espirito Santo needs wins quickly

This move feels a little flawed. Espirito Santo hasn’t worked in England for a little while and it’s going to prove very underwhelming in the eyes of the Forest supporters.

Glasner would have been a better fit. With Eintracht Frankfurt, he played an attacking style of football and the same hasn’t ever been true about Espirito Santo.

This move feels like one that could turn the fan base very toxic, very quickly. Marinakis hasn’t conducted himself in the best light here and for his sake, it will be hoped that the new head coach can get wins quickly should he be appointed.
