Nottingham Forest captain Joe Worrall is emerging as a potential target for West Ham United. David Moyes is keen to bolster his defensive ranks next month and likes the Reds star.

Worrall has found this season somewhat tricky. He was reported to have had a training ground dispute with Steve Cooper and hadn’t been appearing in matchday squads when he was in charge.

Under Nuno Espirito Santo, the captain has returned to training with the senior ranks. On Boxing Day, he came off the bench and made a late substitute appearance for Forest as they beat Newcastle 3-1.

West Ham want Worrall from Forest

The 26-year-old has now emerged as a target for the Hammers when the window reopens next week. West Ham are keen to add a defender to their ranks, with Worrall in their sights, according to The Standard.

The club actually wanted Worrall a while ago when Forest were still in the Championship. The player stayed loyal to the club he supported as a boy, however, leading Forest to the Premier League.

Last season, he spent some time out of the team too. He has struggled a little bit to adapt to life in the Premier League and has only occasionally been considered a regular in this league.

Espirito Santo facing big Forest decision

The captain did okay when he came on against Newcastle on Boxing Day. He did what he had to with composure and showed very little signs of being rusty despite a lack of football.

Worrall has risen through the ranks at Forest and any decision to sell him won’t be taken lightly. The player recently signed a long-term deal so naturally, Forest will be able to command a decent fee for him.

Cooper called Worrall ‘superb’ back in September and on his day he can be a very decent defender. However, Espirito Santo has already alluded to the squad being overstacked and he may choose to offload him.

Worrall will fancy playing regular football and surely he’d welcome the chance to remain in the Premier League. The centre-back has made 224 appearances for the Reds, scoring five goals.
