Gary Neville has paid Nottingham Forest head coach Nuno Espirito Santo the ultimate compliment after his team beat Manchester United at the City Ground.
Forest won thanks to goals from Nicolas Dominguez and Morgan Gibbs-White. Marcus Rashford did briefly equalise for the Red Devils but Forest weren’t to be denied.
Espirito Santo replaced Steve Cooper as the team’s head coach just before Christmas. His first game was a 3-2 defeat to Bournemouth but now they’ve defeated Newcastle and Manchester United in succession.
Neville pays Forest head coach the ultimate compliment
The Sky Sports pundit was in action on co-commentating duty yesterday, with United the focus of his attention. After another defeat for the team he used to play for, he once again went off on a passionate rant.
However, this time he did find time to praise Forest for what they did during yesterday’s game.
He said live on Sky Sports: “There’s no pattern of play at Manchester United. Even Nuno at Nottingham Forest in such a short space of time, I watched Forest against Spurs with Steve Cooper in charge and then obviously I watched them at Newcastle and again today live, you can see already certain things that are starting to occur that the manager wants. United were outfought and Erik ten Hag was outthought today as well.”

Espirito Santo needed to hit the ground running and boy has he done that. Some of the fan base were torn when he was announced as the replacement for Steve Cooper but now most seem to be on board.
Wins over Newcastle and United can’t be sniffed at. Those two victories now have Forest looking up once again and they can start to believe in this division again.
Espirito Santo has had around a week to work with his players and he’s won two of his three matches in charge. That makes things quite exciting from a fan perspective and Neville has a point about Forest.
The Reds had a clear plan of attack yesterday. It’s almost as if the shackles have come off and every player now has a clear idea of what they need to do on the pitch.
To say that Ten Hag is a respected coach and United are one of the biggest clubs in the world, it’s quite a compliment by Neville to laud Forest head coach Espirito Santo.
