BBC Sport pundit Garth Crooks has surprisingly named Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Matt Turner in his Team of the Week. The Reds custodian has been picked after his efforts against Newcastle and Manchester United over Christmas.
The Reds stopper did some good things in both games against two of the Premier League’s big-hitters. However, it’s quite remarkable that he’s been named due to his absolute howler in the build-up to Marcus Rashford’s goal for United.
Turner signed for Forest from Arsenal in the summer transfer window for £7.5 million. He began the season as the club’s number one but did lose his place for five games in November and December but now has the gloves back.
Crooks names Turner in Team of the Week
The pundit has delivered his verdict after the latest round of games were completed last night. Forest goalkeeper Turner has got the nod for his efforts, with three of his teammates also named among his selection.
Crooks told BBC Sport: “Nottingham Forest’s Matt Turner makes my selection for two outstanding performances away at St James’ Park and at home to Manchester United.

“The American lived dangerously at times against United but wins my vote. Two great wins, two great matches and a very successful period for Forest.”
Turner proving a very strange player in the Forest ranks
When it comes to handling crosses and saving shots, Turner isn’t bad at all. He’s enjoyed some good moments this season in the Forest goal but there have also been some pretty erratic moments.
Against Liverpool in October he came steaming out of his box, completely mistimed his clearances and gave Mohamed Salah an open net. On Saturday, he tried to pass a ball to Danilo between his posts and two passes later Rashford was scoring from close range.
It does leave a bit of a quandary for Nuno Espirito Santo. He will be hoping that Forest can get even better and the decision he has to make is whether or not Turner is worth persisting with between the posts.
