Guy Moussi has now been speaking about Ryan Yates amid the Nottingham Forest midfielder hitting some fine form.

The 38-year-old has been speaking to The Garibaldi Red podcast.

So, what has the man who served Forest as a player had to say about Yates? Let’s take a closer look…

What Guy Moussi said about Forest midfielder Ryan Yates

Well, it would appear that the Frenchman has been left somewhat surprised by Forest maestro Yates following his emergence as a senior player.

Yates is a product of the club’s youth academy and he’s made 182 appearances for Forest since making his debut in 2019.

Moussi trained with Forest to keep his fitness up in 2015 and he noticed something back then that he believes has put him in good shape now.

The Frenchman told The Garibaldi Red podcast: “Nowadays the player I like to watch in our squad is Morgan (Gibbs-White) but I’ve been really happy to see Ryan Yates come into the Forest squad. I remember seeing him in 2015 when I was training with the squad and he was a young player, maybe 16 I think.

“To be honest, he wasn’t the one that I would have thought would maybe break through but the first thing that I always realised about Yates was that he was always listening to every single beat of what you say and then learning.

“He was someone willing to learn and in life in general and in football, if you are willing to listen and learn from someone with more experience it will help. Now, he’s the captain of a Premier League team and he’s unbelievable.”

Yates still learning but he’s on the right path

Forest have signed a plethora of midfield talent since winning promotion to the Premier League – but Yates continues to get picked and there is a reason for that.

During 2023/24, the vice-captain hasn’t always been considered the first choice but he’s started three of the four games under Nuno Espirito Santo.

It’s not a surprise to hear that Moussi found Yates a young Forest player who was willing to listen and act as a sponge, taking in every drop of information from more experienced players.

At 26-years-old, there is still more to come from Yates in a Forest shirt. He’s learning all the time, however, and perhaps Espirito Santo is the manager he needs to truly kick on.
