Richie Laryea could be set to return to Nottingham Forest, with Vancouver Whitecaps unable to afford a permanent deal.
That is according to the MLS outfit’s CEO Axel Schuster.
So, what has the Vancouver figure said about potentially signing Laryea from Forest? Let’s take a closer look…
Laryea could now return to Forest after Vancouver loan
The 29-year-old has barely made a ripple since he signed for Forest in January 2022 and now he might be facing a period of limbo.
According to Schuster, who has been talking to The Province, Forest haven’t been satisfied with the proposal submitted for Laryea by Vancouver.
He said: “The maximum amount that Richei can cost us in our salary cap by league rules isn’t a problem for him, it’s more of a problem with Nottingham (Forest).

“He’s still under contract with a club that has bought him for some good dollars and the club is not – at this point at least, in all our conversations – open to let him go for a price that would make this deal possible. That’s where we’re at.”
Forest have to find a solution for surplus player
It’s admirable that Forest are keen to hold out for the best possible deal for Laryea but they really have to think about this one.
The squad at the City Ground is already bloated and having Laryea back makes zero sense.
At 29, the Canada international needs regular game time and it would appear that the MLS is the perfect place for him.
In Vancouver, Laryea scored three goals and claimed eight assists, with the player seemingly settled at the club.
With that in mind, Forest would be wise to accept whatever Schuster can afford to play and cut Laryea loose once and for all.
