Nottingham Forest beat Blackpool in the FA Cup last night and Nicolas Dominguez was absolutely outstanding.

The Reds won the game 3-2, with Chris Wood scoring a late winner in extra time.

So, what was it that made Dominguez so good for Forest during last night’s win? We’ve taken a closer look at his performance…

Nicolas Dominguez stars as Forest beat Blackpool

The 25-year-old signed for Forest from Bologna in the summer for a fee of £8 million – with Remo Freuler going on loan to the Serie A side.

It’s fair to say that he arrived as a bit of an unknown quantity but he’s quickly made a bit of a name for himself at Forest.

Dominguez made his debut against Manchester City in September and went on a run of eight consecutive games in the starting eleven.

However, he was left on the bench for three of Steve Cooper’s last four games in charge – and for Nuno Espirito Santo’s first game against Bournemouth.

He returned to the starting eleven for the game against Manchester United and for the games against Blackpool.

Last night, Forest star Dominguez didn’t disappoint and he was one player that really took the game by the scruff of the neck.

Sofa Score shows that he made five key passes during the 120 minutes and that was more than any player on the pitch.

Dominguez was also strong defensively – despite playing in a more advanced role – making four clearances and winning a staggering 16 duels.

The Argentinean player made 12 tackles and also drew three fouls from the opposition.

Forest star Dominguez showed that he’s not afraid to mix things up either by completing five accurate long passes.

Dominguez set for more game time

It’s a testament to the 11-cap Argentina international that he’s playing so well at the moment.

Having not played much football for a couple of months it would have been easy to sulk. But that’s not Dominguez.

Instead, he’s knuckled down and simply ensured he was in the best possible shape for when he did get the nod again.

Dominguez is set for a prolonged run in the Forest team given the current situation for Espirito Santo.

Ibrahim Sangare is at the African Cup of Nations and won’t be back until February at the earliest.

Furthermore, Dominguez has now highlighted that he can do a job in a wide role and with Anthony Elanga out injured that is most useful.

At £8 million, the Argentine looks a real snip from a Forest perspective and Dominguez will hope to maintain this level of performance.
