‘Don’t know what he’s doing’… Michael Dawson questions 23-year-old Nottingham Forest star

Michael Dawson has suggested that Nottingham Forest winger Callum Hudson-Odoi was to blame for Ivan Toney’s goal in the 3-2 defeat to Brentford.

The man who served Forest as a player was speaking on Sky Sports.

So, what has Dawson said about Forest winger Hudson-Odoi? Let’s take a closer look…

What Michael Dawson said about Forest player Callum Hudson-Odoi

Well, the man who played four times for England during his career namechecked Hudson-Odoi when analysing the goal scored by Toney.

Forest gifted the returning striker a chance to score yesterday, giving away a free-kick on the edge of the box.

The wall didn’t look to be set up correctly and it looked like a really simple goal scored by Brentford.

Dawson explained that he wasn’t quite sure exactly what Hudson-Odoi was doing when Forest were defending the deadball situation.

He told Sky Sports: “Michael Dawson moves the ball slightly to the right – I don’t think that has a major impact on the outcome, I really don’t.

“I’m not too sure what Callum Hudson-Odoi is doing here. Nathan Collins is there stood not far from the ball but he was never going to play it there.”

Dawson thinks Forest could have prevented the Toney goal

In our view, Dawson is a bit wide of the mark here.

To say that Toney doesn’t gain an advantage by moving it to the right is somewhat strange as it clearly changes the outcome.

Had Forest picked up on this, however, they should have changed their wall accordingly and Matt Turner is more at fault than Hudson-Odoi.

Perhaps Hudson-Odoi could join the wall but had he done that and then Toney slipped Collins here, he’d have been moaned at again.

Forest have to change their mentality.

Ultimately this was another game that Forest have gone in front in and not finished with anything for their efforts.

Right now, the mentality of certain players within this group is weak and that simply has to change moving forward.
