Newcastle United have been scouting Nottingham Forest star Morgan Gibbs-White extensively in recent months.

This is according to The Telegraph.

So, what is the situation with Newcastle and Gibbs-White – and will he leave Forest? Let’s dive in…

Newcastle interested in Forest star Morgan Gibbs-White

Well, even Newcastle given their new-found wealth have to cut their cloth accordingly and several players could leave St James’ Park this month.

Miguel Almiron is one forward who could depart, with reports claiming there is interest from Saudi Arabia.

According to The Telegraph, if Almiron leaves Newcastle could move to sign Gibbs-White from Forest – although the article says it would be a very difficult deal to do.

Gibbs-White has made 60 appearances for the Reds since signing from Wolves for a fee that could rise to £42.5 million in 2022.

He’s scored eight goals and claimed 11 assists with his most recent goals coming against Manchester United and in the FA Cup against Blackpool.

Andy Townsend has raved about Forest star Gibbs-White in the past. Back in August, he called him ‘extraordinary’ ahead of the new campaign.

Newcastle have zero chance of signing Gibbs-White this month

With everything surrounding the club amid a possible points deduction, it is likely that more players will go out than come in this month.

That doesn’t mean Forest are going to be doing anything silly, however, and it’s hard to imagine Gibbs-White being sold.

Furthermore, given how much Forest paid for Gibbs-White, if Newcastle are serious about the player they’re going to have to dig deep.

The Reds offloaded Brennan Johnson for £50 million during the summer and it’s fair to say that Gibbs-White has a considerably higher ceiling.

At 23, Gibbs-White has huge potential and it’s no secret that Gareth Southgate is monitoring Gibbs-White within the England setup.

It doesn’t come as a surprise that clubs are monitoring Gibbs-White but it’s hard to imagine Forest selling such a key player this month.
