Nottingham Forest lost 2-1 to Arsenal in the Premier League last night but Mikel Arteta praised Taiwo Awoniyi.

The Spaniard was speaking with TNT Sports.

So, what has the Arsenal boss said about Forest striker Awoniyi? Let’s take a closer look…

What Mikel Arteta said about Forest star Taiwo Awoniyi

Well, it would appear as though the Arsenal boss is a huge fan of the Forest player – and he raved about him after last night.

Awoniyi was introduced at half-time of the clash and scored a late consolation as Forest somehow managed to lose the game.

Arsenal were growing frustrated when a pretty nothing attempt from Gabriel Jesus managed to be diverted into the net via Matt Turner.

The return of Awoniyi did at least bring a smile to the faces of Forest supporters and his goal drew praise from Arteta.

He said on TNT Sports: “He is a real threat and obviously with a deep block they defend, when there are spaces behind you, he manages to take the first touch, he is a really dangerous player.

“He managed to score at the Emirates and he scored again tonight.”

Forest have to pray striker can stay fit

Although Forest have lost for the second successive time in the Premier League there were some positives to take – with Awoniyi one of them.

One of them was definitely the return of Awoniyi into the fold after being out injured since November with a groin problem that required surgery.

The player signed from Union Berlin for £18 million in the summer of 2022 has proved a very good piece of business for Forest.

Now, the challenge comes in keeping Awoniyi fit for the remainder of the season – with Forest’s status as a Premier League club likely to depend on it.

The player is quality on his day and boy do Forest need him to stay fit for the remaining games.
