Martin Keown has taken aim at Gonzalo Montiel after Nottingham Forest were beaten 2-1 by Arsenal at the City Ground last night.

The pundit was speaking with TNT Sports after the game.

So, what has Keown said about Forest defender Montiel? Let’s take a closer look…

What Martin Keown has said about Forest defender Gonzalo Montiel

Well, it would appear that he’s not particularly happy with the 27-year-old for his efforts during the first goal.

Forest were holding Arsenal and despite some pressure from the Gunners, clear-cut chances to score weren’t overly forthcoming.

The first goal Forest conceded was a comedy of errors, with Neco Williams, Montiel and Matt Turner all playing their part in Gabriel Jesus scoring.

Keown also believes Andrew Omobamidele isn’t immune to criticism – although it’s Forest defender Montiel who he felt started the ball rolling.

He told TNT Sports: “How has Jesus got that kind of space? It’s ridiculous. Montiel is a World Cup winner but why does he leave Jesus? He runs past him.

“Jesus is all on his own and Omobamidele should go across. He’s a young defender but I just don’t get it. In the end, the goalkeeper should do better, it’s a bit of a nightmare for him.”

Montiel improving but silly errors will cost him

Luckily for Montiel, it would appear as though Nuno Espirito Santo does rate him highly – but he has to improve his performance level.

For the second goal, it was his loose clearance that led to the ball eventually being put in the net and a lack of concentration was evident.

In fairness to Montiel, he did play a part in the goal which Forest scored and much like other full-backs at the club, he’s fine going forward.

According to Who Scored, Montiel finished the night with five aerials won and also made 11 clearances which isn’t a bad night’s work.

However, the little errors are ruining his performances and Montiel must vow to kick on at Forest as the season progresses.
