Nottingham Forest are set to wrap up the signing of Strasbourg goalkeeper Matz Sels with a deal of around £6million set to be completed.
Forest signed two goalkeepers over the summer as Matt Turner and Odysseas Vlachodimos arrived to replace loanees Dean Henderson and Keylor Navas.
Neither Turner nor Vlachodimos have impressed though and Turner’s poor display against Arsenal in midweek cemented the need for a new stopper.
A host of goalkeepers have been linked of late but Forest now appear to be closing in on Nuno Espirito Santo’s key target…
Nottingham Forest set to sign Strasbourg goalkeeper Matz Sels
Fabrizio Romano now reports that Forest have agreed a deal to snap up Strasbourg goalkeeper Matz Sels.
It’s stated that Sels is flying to Nottingham for a medical this afternoon with a deal hopefully going through before the transfer deadline.
Romano claims that the fee involved is around €7million (£6million) with Forest on the verge of striking a signing.
31-year-old Self has been Strasbourg’s first-choice goalkeeper this season, playing every single minute of their Ligue 1 campaign.
A Belgium international with six caps to his name, Sels has previously had a spell in English football having joined Newcastle United in 2016.
Sels only played nine league games in the Championship before heading to Anderlecht on loan and then joining Strasbourg.
Sels has rebuilt his career in France and now seems ready for another crack at success in England.

Nuno Espirito Santo a big fan of Sels
Sels may seem like a surprise signing but it seems that boss Nuno Espirito Santo has played a key role in the move.
The Telegraph’s John Percy notes that Nuno is a ‘big fan’ of Self and wanted to bring him to the City Ground.
Percy also adds that Forest were initially reluctant to sign another goalkeeper after landing two in the summer, but another addition became vital.
Sels may now walk straight in as Forest’s first-choice stopper and he may be eyeing a Premier League debut against Bournemouth this weekend.
