Who is Matz Sels?

Matz Sels is a professional footballer who currently plays at Strasbourg. The 31-year-old has been with the Ligue 1 outfit since 2018 when he moved from Newcastle United.

During his time in England with the Magpies, he made 14 appearances for the club and kept five clean sheets. He has made six appearances for the Belgian national team. He has also previously played for Anderlecht, Gent and Lierse.

Where and when was Matz Sels born?

Matz Sels was born on May 26, 1992, in Lint, Belgium. Lint is a municipality located in the Belgian province of Antwerp, in the Flemish region of Belgium.

Lint is a relatively small and quiet town with a population of around 8,000 people. It is known for its picturesque surroundings, including green fields and forests, typical of the Flemish countryside.

His first club was Lierse SK, a Belgian football club based in Lier, where he began his youth career before transitioning to their senior team.

Sels is a goalkeeper – who stands tall at an imposing 6’1. He will provide competition for Matt Turner.
