Steve Cooper thought highly of Callum Hudson-Odoi, who joined Nottingham Forest from Chelsea in the summer of 2023.

That is according to The Athletic, which has noted how Cooper’s successor at Forest, Nuno, feels about Hudson-Odoi.

Steve Cooper liked Nottingham Forest winger Callum Hudson-Odoi a lot

Well, according to a report in The Athletic published on Monday morning, Steve Cooper rated Nottingham Forest winger Callum Hudson-Odoi highly.

Forest, who offloaded Orel Mangala in the January transfer window, signed Hudson-Odoi from Premier League rivals Chelsea in the summer of 2023. The Reds paid £3 million in transfer fees for the 23-year-old English winger (The Athletic).

The Athletic has noted that “Cooper was excited about his potential,” adding that “Nuno shares that point of view”. 

The report has claimed that it was Cooper who “persuaded” Hudson-Odoi to make the move to the City Ground. The 44-year-old had managed the youngster in an England Under-17 side that won the World Cup in 2017.

Cooper was sacked as the Forest manager in December following a poor run of results. Former Wolverhampton Wanderers and Tottenham Hotspur boss Nuno replaced the Welshman at the City Ground. Cooper is now being linked with the Crystal Palace managerial role.

My View: Callum Hudson-Odoi will get better

In my opinion, Callum Hudson-Odoi has not been a huge success at Nottingham Forest, who signed Giovanni Reyna in the January transfer window. I think that the winger has not been consistent and has shown only glimpses of what he can do.

However, I think that the winger, who scored against Bournemouth in the Premier League this past weekend, will get better and develop further. After all, he is only 23 now and is playing in the Premier League. There are not many players in his age bracket who are doing that.

Hudson-Odoi has made seven starts and seven substitute appearances in the Premier League for Forest so far this season. He has scored two goals and given one assist in those games.
