‘I shocked myself’… £7m Premier League player says he was ‘unbelievable’ for Nottingham Forest

West Ham United star Michail Antonio has been discussing his time at Nottingham Forest – and he believes he was truly amazing at the City Ground.

The Hammers striker has been speaking on Monday Night Football.

What Michail Antonio said about playing for Nottingham Forest

Well, it would appear that Forest got the best out of Antonio – certainly in the eyes of the player himself anyway!

Antonio is West Ham’s top goalscorer in the Premier League era. As a result, the pundits on Sky Sports were perhaps surprised he picked out his time at Forest as the best days of his career.

Antonio believes that during his time at Forest, he shocked himself sometimes by just how useful he was.

He told Sky Sports: “I’d say my best would have been when I was at Forest, during the 14/15 season. What I did at Forest, the confidence I had, 15 goals, 15 assists, like what I was doing that year was unbelievable to the point where I shocked myself.

“I was playing left-wing at the time. I was beating four or five men and just putting it in the top corner, week in and week out.

“At West Ham, I’m told not to shoot from outside the box. At Nottingham Forest, all I was doing was scoring from outside the box!”

Antonio oozed class at the City Ground

The 33-year-old has got 77 goals in 290 appearances for the Hammers but he’s currently out with a knee injury.

It was nice to hear him reminiscing about his time at Forest with fondness and it was a shame that it all ended on a sour note to some degree.

Antonio put himself in the shop window with a number of strong performances for Forest.

In all competitions, he scored 19 goals and claimed 15 assists from his 54 appearances. In hindsight, it was a shame that the club couldn’t keep him.

Antonio will be remembered fondly on Trentside. With that in mind, he’s probably right to say that his time at Forest was the best he’s performed across his career.
