TNT Sports commentator Darren Fletcher believes Joe Worrall will be deeply hurt that he’s had to leave Nottingham Forest.
The Forest-supporting pundit made the comments on the Forest Focus podcast.
So, what has Fletcher said about Worrall after he chose to exit Forest earlier this month? Let’s take a closer look…
What Darren Fletcher has said about Joe Worrall leaving Forest
Well, it’s no secret that Fletcher is a good friend of Worrall and he claimed as much on the latest edition of this podcast.
However, he tried to remain balanced with his views here and ultimately, he believes that the time was right for Worrall to leave Forest.
The player played over 200 times for Forest having come through the academy but just nine appearances were handed to him this season.
Fletcher believes that Worrall will be deeply hurt by how things have ended for him at Forest.
The commentator told the Forest Focus podcast: “I don’t think this is what Joe wants, this is Joe’s club, he came through the academy, he’s Nottingham born and bred and in an ideal world he’d be the captain for the foreseeable.
“He’s not the sort of character that just sits there and takes a pay cheque. He wants to get out there and play.
“I’m proud of him for getting out and doing that. It doesn’t mean he doesn’t care passionately about Forest because he does and I think that if he could pick his future, he’d come back and be the captain in the Premier League next season.

“The way he was treated before the new manager came in – to be told to train on your own was unnecessary and wrong. For me, I’m sad about that and I think that all the lad does is care passionately about this club. I know it hurts him a lot that it’s finished like this for him at the club.”
Time was right for Worrall to make City Ground exit
All good things must come to an end and ultimately, the writing had been on the wall for Worrall for some time.
It’s a romantic thought that academy players should form a part of the team – but quite simply they have to produce the goods.
In recent times, Worrall hasn’t done that often enough at Forest. His form has been sporadic and that’s led to some critique.
Also, there was the talk that Worrall and Steve Cooper had a spat; which hasn’t gone down well among the fan base.
Worrall has joined a decent club in Besiktas and ultimately, he will hope to get back to some kind of form that he showed when Forest were promoted.
What the future holds remains to be seen. It would be absolutely no surprise, however, if Worrall had played his last game for Forest.
