Nottingham Forest head coach Nuno Espirito Santo has claimed during a recent interview that Murillo still needs to keep improving.

The boss has been speaking with ESPN Brasil.

So, what has the head coach Espirito Santo said about Forest defender Murillo? Let’s take a closer look…

What Nuno Espirito Santo has claimed about Forest defender Murillo

Well, it would appear that Espirito Santo is a big fan of the defender and has praised certain aspects of his game during this interview.

Murillo signed for Forest in the summer of 2023 and the Reds fought off competition from Manchester City for his services.

The talented 21-year-old was left on the bench last night as Forest edged Bristol City on penalties in the FA Cup.

Murillo will therefore be fit and fresh for the Forest game against Newcastle on Saturday – and Espirito Santo has been discussing the quality defender.

He told ESPN Brasil: “Murillo has a lot of quality. He’s a very quick defender, he’s well built, but I don’t just look at the good things.

“It’s better not to change what’s already good, just try to improve it. Now, there are aspects of his game that he has to improve.

“We mustn’t forget that a defender’s fundamental job is to defend.

“It’s not that he gets excited, it’s his characteristics, he feels comfortable sometimes making certain decisions, which I consider should be taken in another part of the field… in defensive terms, we should be more practical.”

Forest will hope to keep star defender beyond this season

The youngster who came to Forest from Corinthians looks like an exceptional piece of business at just £10.4 million.

Last night was the first time Murillo hasn’t played a single minute for Forest since October before he made his debut.

Hopefully, Forest can remain in the Premier League beyond this season and one of many reasons is so that the club can keep Murillo.

The Brazilian should see Forest rake in a large amount of profit but there will be absolutely no desire to sell him just yet.

Murillo has quickly become a fan favourite and hopefully, under Espirito Santo he can become an even better defender.
