‘A clear no-go’… 33-year-old explains why he didn’t sign for Nottingham Forest in January

RB Leipzig goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi has suggested that Nottingham Forest were interested in him amid January interest.

The custodian has been speaking with the German publication Bild.

So, what has the experienced stopper said about the links to Forest last month? Let’s take a closer look…

Peter Gulacsi suggests Forest wanted him in January

Well, it proved a pretty quiet transfer window by Forest’s usual hectic standards – although Nuno Espirito Santo did have to make a U-turn over his goalkeeping situation.

A number of errors from Matt Turner meant that the head coach decided to act before the deadline.

It was anticipated at one point that Forest would go with Turner and Odysseas Vlachodimos for the remainder of the campaign.

Forest ended up signing Matz Sels ahead of the deadline but not before Gulacsi was linked with a move to the City Ground.

The man who was previously on the books of Liverpool has now been discussing the interest in him – and it doesn’t look as though any move was close.

He told Bild: “There was concrete interest from the Premier League. But I realised that I would get the chance here at some point. And it was a clear no-go for the club. In this respect, the issue was quickly dealt with by both sides.”

Gulacsi would have been a short-term fix

It’s probably not the end of the world that Forest didn’t manage to sign Gulacsi before the transfer deadline.

The 33-year-old does have experience having made 289 appearances for RB Leipzig and helping the club to silverware.

Gulacsi has fallen down the pecking order this season, although since the window closed he has won his place back.

As a result, he’s been justified not to leave his current club and thankfully Forest managed to move on from Gulacsi too.
