It was sheer ecstasy for Nottingham Forest star Ibrahim Sangare last night as Ivory Coast won the African Cup of Nations.

For the 26-year-old it proved a bittersweet night and he showcased his talents despite playing for just 10 minutes of the showpiece finale.

So, how did Forest star Sangare perform for the Ivory Coast last night? Let’s take a closer look…

Forest midfielder Sangare stars during AFCON Final

Well, it would have been pretty heartbreaking for Sangare when the team was announced given that he wasn’t in it.

However, unlike Forest teammate Willy Boly, Sangare was at least named among the substitutes.

With Ivory Coast leading going into the final stages of the game, Sangare was summonsed from the bench.

It was the 87th minute when Sangare was introduced and after seven minutes of stoppage time, the Forest man had played just 10 minutes.

However, Who Scored showcased that he achieved a game-best stat despite his short time on the pitch during the final.

They show that Sangare won a staggering four headers during his cameo – the most of any player on the pitch across the entire match.

Reds need Sangare to come up trumps

Rather frustratingly, Sangare produced his best performance in a Forest shirt just before he headed off to the AFCON.

His showing in the 3-1 win away at Newcastle was simply outstanding and it was a shame that Forest haven’t seen him since.

It’s perhaps interesting, however, that Sangare was such a prowess in the air and Forest will be intrigued by that.

The Reds have to stop conceding soft goals – particularly from set pieces – and perhaps Sangare can now be a menace defensively when it comes to heading.

It’s great that Sangare and Boly will return to Forest as champions.

There will be no time to celebrate, however, and the Reds desperately need Sangare to produce the goods now.
