Nottingham Forest defender Harry Toffolo has shared which three people seriously helped him last summer as he awaited the outcome of his trial after some betting breaches.

The player has been speaking with The Athletic.

So, what has Forest defender Toffolo said about that time of his life and who helped him through? Let’s take a closer look…

Harry Toffolo names three Nottingham Forest figures who helped him

Well, it seems as though the football club really looked after Toffolo at an extremely difficult period of his life.

Toffolo was charged after placing some bets earlier in his career and was forced to stand trial – with a suspension likely at one stage.

In the end, the Forest man got a five-month suspended sentence and was forced to pay a fine for his actions.

The football club gets a lot of criticism from certain supporters, with some desperate to throw a negative spin on pretty much anything.

Toffolo can’t speak highly enough about Forest, however, and has now revealed which three figures really helped him through his trial.

He told The Athletic: “When it all came out, I hit rock bottom. I thought I was done (as a footballer). Finished. My family were brilliant. Steve (Cooper), Ross Wilson, Mr (Evangelos) Marinaks and his family – they all gave me incredible support.

“I feel indebted to them. That is why I give my all in every single game I play. They stuck by me in a moment in my life which was really tough. You never forget those people. They listened. They let me speak.”

Toffolo has been out of the team just lately, with Nuno Tavares getting a chance to stake his claim for a place under Nuno Espirito Santo.

Toffolo is a top man and the Reds are lucky to have him

Some footballers can cop some flak in the modern era and it’s refreshing that Forest have a human being as remarkable as Toffolo in their ranks.

At 28-years-old, the player is still at a decent age and in our view, he should probably be playing ahead of Tavares right now.

Toffolo signed for less than £3 million from Huddersfield shortly after Forest had defeated the Terriers in the Championship Play-Off Final.

Last season, he made 21 appearances for the Reds but often found himself playing second fiddle to Renan Lodi.

Toffolo is a player who gives his all every time he plays for the club and that attribute shouldn’t be underestimated by Forest in the fight for survival.
