Alex Mighten joined Port Vale on loan from Nottingham Forest in January and yesterday he might have received a huge setback.

This comes after the Valiants appointed Darren Moore as their new boss – someone that Mighten knows extremely well.

So, why could yesterday’s news be a bad omen for Mighten and how could it impact the Forest man? Let’s take a closer look…

Darren Moore to Port Vale could be bad news for Alex Mighten

Well, Mighten must be absolutely kicking himself and his chances of football at Vale Park could now be about to get very slim.

Forest let Mighten join the League One outfit in January – following a six-month loan spell with KV Kortrijk in Belgium.

There, he played 12 times but failed to register a single goal contribution and Forest will hope for more from his spell with Port Vale.

Now, Moore will embark on a five-and-a-half-year contract with Port Vale and Mighten will have to prove himself to a manager who didn’t fancy him last season.

Mighten joined Sheffield Wednesday from Forest at the start of the 2022/23 campaign but after two goals in 14 appearances, he was sent back in January.

Will thing be different under Moore for Forest starlet Mighten

It has to be said that this is now the million-dollar question – and Mighten must be forgiven for feeling a little bit anxious.

Moore did praise Forest gem Mighten last season in fairness and perhaps he simply wasn’t the right player for Wednesday at the time.

He told The Star: “Alex is an exceptional man and it was one of the hardest decisions that I have had to make since becoming a manager. To look him in the face and talk to him on that level was a tough decision.”

Quite simply, Moore deployed a system at Wednesday that simply didn’t suit Mighten, with the boss going with wing-backs.

Now, Forest will hope that Mighten is going to prove Moore wrong this time and earn a regular run of games in League between now and the end of the season.

At 21-years-old, Mighten has endured a frustrating couple of years and yesterday’s news certainty won’t ease those frustrations.

Hopefully, Moore can get something out of Mighten and he can return to Forest in the summer with plenty of football under his belt.

However, given the player’s past under this manager, it will now be fascinating to see what plays out.
