Nuno Espirito Santo has been clearing up the role of Mark Clattenburg after Nottingham Forest appointed him into a bizarre City Ground role.
The head coach was speaking with The Athletic after yesterday’s win over West Ham.
So, what has Espirito Santo said about Clattenburg joining the staff at Forest? Let’s take a closer look…
What Nuno Espirito Santo has said about Mark Clattenburg
Just one normal day at Nottingham Forest Football Club is all we ask for. It’s not too much to ask, surely?
Well, the Reds have appointed Clattenburg into a role created especially for him as the club’s referee analyst.
It sounds a strange one – and that’s probably because it is pretty unique – and Espirito Santo has been clearing up what he expects from Clattenburg.
He told The Athletic: “I have not seen him yet. But what I expect is that somebody so expert and so good, will give us a clear opinion on what is happening.

“I think everyone in this room is asking that. For me, I am asking myself why. I can accept that the referee didn’t see it.
“But when we have VAR, when it is so obvious, what I expect from Mark is that he will be able to say ‘this is why that was obvious’.
Forest due a big decision
It’s often said that decisions even themselves out over the course of a season so it’s going to be a fantastic day when Forest get a number of penalties in the final 13 games of the season!
It feels at the moment as though every single week, the Reds are on the wrong end of a bad decision.
Yesterday – in defence of referee Tom Bramall – the foul on Neco Williams would have been tricky to spot in real-time.
However, there is absolutely no excuse for VAR not to be spotting that and recommending another look.
Clattenburg working for Forest is going to be interesting and it remains to be seen whether this is a move that other clubs will look to make.
Espirito Santo is keen to leave no stone unturned as he looks to understand VAR and hopefully, this step can prove a positive one.
